With the announcement that iOS 7 will be coming to select Apple devices sometime around September, learning how to Jailbreak your iOS 7 iphone is a better option than ever.

When you buy an Apple product, you want the best. iPhones, iPads and iPods have each revolutionized mobile communication, computing entertainment, effectively creating entirely new categories of technology.

When you have the greatest portable devices on the face of the planet, you shouldn’t be forced to use it the way Apple says. You should be able to do whatever you want with it.

Jailbreaking gives you root access to the operating system, which takes your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a whole new level. When you Jailbreak a phone, you instantly get access to features that were unavailable before. These are just some of the benefits of jailbreaking your phone:

  • Access to third party apps: Apple only wants you to be able to use the apps they have approved for sale in the App Store. Jailbreaking your Apple device allows you to access apps that customize it in incredible ways, improve the user interface, and fix the annoying issues that Apple sometimes misses. You can even install Flash player for more versatile media capabilities. There are virtually unlimited download options from the Cydia Store1

What’s even better is that many of these apps, wallpapers and games are absolutely free, so you never have to worry about paying too much for what you want.

  • Use with any mobile phone carrier: Jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad allows you to use it with any cell carrier you want. This keeps you from getting stuck with an unreliable, overpriced carrier. You now have the freedom to roam.
  • Early exploit fixes: As impressive as Apple developers are, sometime they miss a loophole that could allow your personal information to be stolen, including your iTunes account. Jailbreaking lets you fix these problems before they become an issue.

With the release of iOS 6, learning how to jailbreak was a necessity because of some pretty spectacular fails on the part of Apple. Just think of the security issues and their whole Maps snafu.

If you don’t jailbreak your phone, tablet or iPod touch, you simply aren’t getting the most out of your device.

Before we get too far into what a jailbroken iPhone, iPad and iPod touch device can do, let’s see what Apple has done to upgrade their operating system with iOS 7 refresh.

What’s New in iOS 7?

iOS 7 has a slew of new features that make it a significant departure from iOS 6.  CEO Tim Cook claimed that iOS 7 is the biggest change to the iPhone since the device was introduced. Apple went all out with this redesign, and the added functionality and appearance make the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch even more remarkable than before.

Overhauled Design

Apple built a renewed simplicity into the new OS. This isn’t a lack of features: it’s getting the unnecessary bells and whistles out of the way for an uncluttered, intuitive user experience.

A translucent, layered look is built into the home screen, allowing you to see around and under app tiles as you move the device. This gives a 3D effect and makes the most out of the stunning Retina display.

By now, Apple has become famous for its catchy animations and simplified interactions. iOS 7 takes this to a new level, even building into the weather app animations that interact with the text displayed. It’s just another way Apple has figured out to make even checking the weather a bit more fun.

Control Center

One of the most innovative features of the iOS 7 is that you can access the control center from anywhere. No more exiting programs to adjust brightness or toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Now you can get to your timer, calculator, camera and more in an instant. You also have access to controlling your music. All you have to do is swipe up on the screen, and the control center pops up.

Two other features on the Control Center menu are also of note: you now have access to AirDrop and AirPlay.

AirDrop

This lets you share anything that has a share button through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to anyone around you. Even better, you can add multiple files to share, and you don’t have to high-five your friend’s phone with yours to do it.

AirPlay

Airplay still allows you to stream media wirelessly through your Apple TV box, but now accessing this app is easier. With access to iCloud now built in to the phone, this feature is even sweeter.

Apple has worked overtime on updating iOS 7 to reduce the number of steps it takes to do things throughout the device. Seamless integration of apps and improved multitasking is one of the most raved about changes to the OS.

Simplicity is the newest buzzword in the Apple lexicon.

This is a substantial improvement over previous versions of the iOS platform. Having such easy access to controlling many key features of your device make using it more intuitive and less of a hassle than ever before.

Bonus Feature: Now you don’t have to search for Torch when you need a flashlight. Apple’s iOS 7 has it built into the Control Center for easy access.

iTunes Radio

Apple is calling the music player in the new OS the best they have ever done. One truly cool feature about the new player is that it not only gives you access to the music you have stored on your device, but you also have access to everything you have stored on iCloud. With a stout enough data plan, you can even choose to purchase a device with less storage since you no longer have to carry everything you want to listen to on your device2.

Perhaps the biggest deal is iTunes Radio. iTunes not only gives you access to your own music, you now can stream millions of songs through your device for free. Apple reportedly has deals with the three largest labels—Sony, Warner and Universal—so you won’t be left searching for your favorite songs or be stuck with a bunch of songs that weren’t very good when they came out 30 years ago. If you hear a song you like, you can seamlessly purchase it from iTunes without missing a beat.

Genius

Genius integrates your music listening trends and preferences, so your music listening experience is more personalized than before. Discover new music, give it a listen, and buy it in the iTunes store without even leaving the music player. As mentioned above, Apple has really worked to keep you from having to switch from app to app and screen to screen to get what you want.

What’s best about it is that the whole service is free for any iTunes user. It’s ad-supported, so you will have to pay if you want an ad-free version, but being free gives it a huge advantage over paid streaming services.

New Interface:

When you flip your iPhone on its side, landscape mode lets you view a wall of album tiles so that you can scroll through in the typical iTunes style. The tile wall allows you to see more albums at one time, which means you will have less scrolling to do to get to the title you want.

Siri

Siri gets some pretty impressive tweaks. Rather than switch away from whatever screen you are on to access the app, a translucent Siri superimposes itself over your current page. This keeps you from having to leave what you were working on to get the answers you need.

What makes it more useful is that it not only searches more sources, including Bing, Wikipedia and Twitter3, but it displays the answers in the same screen as the Siri interface. You aren’t shuffled from screen to screen or app to app. One of the most annoying things about the iPhone is getting back to where you were. That is now minimized with app integration.

Apple also improved Siri’s voice in iOS7, so talking to her doesn’t sound quite as much like speaking to a robot4.

She can even send Tweets for you. As a personal assistant, Siri has undoubtedly earned a promotion, and her expanded list of job duties should please you.

Are you Listening to Me? Nothing is worse than talking to someone who isn’t listening. The Siri interface now has an animated audio wave that fluctuates when you speak to let you know she is catching what you are saying.

Safari

One of the limitations of portable devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is that their screens are far smaller than a typical computer screen. Occasionally, this can cause awkward web browsing, even on mobile optimized pages.

Safari’s update allows you to change the size of the URL bar. This gives you better control over what you see on the screen, and can help you squeeze out a bit extra space for viewing. On top of that, the search field and address bar have been combined, so now you can search or enter a URL from the same spot, with dynamic suggestions appearing as you type.

Shared links5 let you quickly and easily see URLs posted in your Twitter feed, and the Reading List makes reading through your saved articles simple.

Notification Center

iOS 7 Notification Center Jailbreak

For the new iOS 7, Apple transformed the notifications bar into a full-screen notification center. You can see the date and time, your calendar, missed calls, texts, shared videos and just about anything else you need to know.

Just like the new Control Center, the Notification Center is accessible from any screen. Just swipe down and you see everything you need to know about your day. The sections allow you to sort the information for at-a-glance insight.

Smart Design6: The Notification Center is also viewable from the lock screen, so you don’t even have to unlock your phone to see what’s new in your life.

Camera

The new camera now has four modes: still, panorama, video and the newly unveiled square, which allows you to frame the picture to make it, literally, square. This is perfect for social media avatars and profile pictures since traditional pictures have to be cropped, sometimes giving you an awkward photocopy7. What is nice about the new format is that the capture modes can be quickly switched with a mere swipe of the screen.

The camera also includes a range of filters for adding instant effects to your pictures. Now you don’t have to go through an app to take retro or black and white pictures. You can even remove the filter later on if you decide you don’t like it.

Photo Gallery

Apple has introduced a new way to group photos, allowing you to choose to zoom out of the normal gallery view and see Collections, Moments and Years. This automatically groups your photos by time, place and importance so you can quickly find photos based on simple and easy-to-remember filters.

It’s also easier to share pictures automatically through iCloud. You can create shared photo streams with friends, family, and co-workers so everyone knows exactly how the game went or what happened at the big party.

Grab Bag

Not every upgrade can be a rock star. Here’s a list of not-so-sexy features that still add fresh new functions to iOS 7:

  • Built-in Level: The compass app also doubles as a level using the device’s accelerometer. A lot of people might not even use the compass, but a level sure comes in handy for hanging pictures.
  • App Store Kids Section: Kids love playing with everything Apple creates, and the new iOS 7 App Store makes it safer for parents to hand over their device. You don’t have to worry about them stumbling into the latest season of Breaking Bad.
  • FaceTime App: FaceTime can now be accessed through its own app, rather than through the Phone or Contacts apps. It also includes voice calling to save minutes (if you still are counting them) and a block list to keep you from receiving unwanted calls.
  • Increased Security: If your phone is lost or stolen, you can erase it remotely. Your Apple ID is required to unlock the device, so it is less likely that a thief can use it. You can even remotely display a custom message on the screen asking whoever has it to contact you.

Is it Still Worth it to Jailbreak?

With all of these incredible features built into the iOS 7, is there genuinely a need to jailbreak it?

In short, the answer is “YES”.

With all that the new iOS 7 can do, it’s more valuable than ever to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Jailbreaking doesn’t give you a bunch of features that are equivalent to those that are already loaded in. Instead, it unleashes a whole new set of possibilities for your device by enabling you to have access to thousands of apps that use the full potential of your Apple device.

You don’t want to be stuck with a phone that doesn’t live up to its true capabilities. When you unlock your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch you are able to use your phone better than it was intended. You get access to apps and services that Apple doesn’t want you to have.

With jailbreaking, you get total control over your device.

Full Reversibility

One of the biggest concerns Apple users have when jailbreaking their device is the warranty. Jailbreaking is legal in the United States, but Apple says that it may void your warranty. When you spend the cash3 it takes to get an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you don’t want to take your warranty too lightly.

When jailbreaking your Apple products, make sure that you get a program that is fully reversible. If you ever have a problem with your device and have to take it in to the Apple store, a reversible jailbreak program lets you restore the factory default OS so your warranty won’t be voided.

Greater Privacy

One of the inescapable aspects of having an iPhone is that your location tracked. This can make a lot of local information available to you, but it also allows your location to be tracked. Jailbreaking your phone, tablet, or MP3 player allows you to disable location tracking for increased privacy. Now you can control when people see you, and slip into digital invisibility whenever you want.

Many third party apps that can be installed on a jailbroken phone also require less information than apps bought through the App Store. Because they respect your privacy more than approved apps, you have less chance of getting spam or having your identity and personal information stolen. In an age of increased digital theft, protecting your information is no longer a luxury.

Improved Apps

An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that runs on the factory iOS 7 will only be able to download approved apps sold in the App Store. The problem with this is that many of the best apps aren’t available there.

An unlocked phone lets you download thousands of apps that you would never be allowed to access.

Here is just a sample of what jailbroken apps can do:

  • Improved Keyboard: Apple has built a pretty decent keyboard into the iOS 7, but it could be better. There are apps available that combine the best features of other device keyboards into a single keyboard, making typing much easier.

  • Ad-Blocking: It’s annoying when you are constantly bombarded with ads when using apps or browsing. There are several jailbroken apps that allow you to block ads in almost every app on your device. Some of them are even free to download.

Cydia Ad Blocker

Blocking apps also uses less data, conserving your data for streaming music, videos and surfing the web.

  • Portable Hotspot: Sure, you can access this through your cell phone carrier if you want, but you will be paying a bit extra for it each month. There are forbidden apps that give you the power to turn your device into a mobile hotspot. You can even purchase some that can share via Bluetooth or USB, giving you more options for how you use your Wi-Fi.

Jailbreak Portable Hotspot

  • Better Messaging: Messaging works pretty well on the iPhone, but it could be faster and give you a few more options. With access to apps you normally can’t install, you can improve your messenger experience.

  • Customized Defaults: You don’t want to be stuck with Apple choosing what default programs open your browser, maps etc. You can download apps that will allow you to choose whether you want to use Google Maps, Search, or Chrome as your default programs.

The same is true for others who like to use Sparrow as their mail client. You can choose to make it your default, reducing the number of steps it takes to send or check your mail.

In general, iOS 7 is great. Although some people are mad enough about it to actually create a lawsuit against Apple for iOS 7. I hope he has a great lawyer7.
